The Tenda AC23 (AC2100) is a dual-band, gigabit-speed wireless router targeting home and small office use. It leverages 802.11ac wave2 technology to deliver combined WiFi speeds of up to 2033 Mbps (300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz + 1733 Mbps on 5 GHz) and includes multiple external antennas for broader coverage.

It is designed to support high-speed fiber/DSL connections (up to gigabit), with a feature set that includes MU-MIMO, beamforming, QoS/Bandwidth Control, guest networks, and parental controls.

Strengths, Limitations & Use Cases

Strengths:

  • Good value for high-speed home/fiber plans: with full gigabit ports and wave2 features, it can fully take advantage of fast WAN links.

  • Strong coverage: with 7 antennas, signal amplifiers, beamforming / MU-MIMO, it performs well through walls. Feature-rich for a midrange router: guest network, parental controls, QoS, Tenda App and cloud integration.

  • Simple UI and setup, with mobile app control and support for LED on/off, power saving, etc.

Limitations / Considerations:

  • Only 3 LAN ports: if you need many wired devices, you may need a switch.

  • No USB port (in the AC23 model) for file sharing or USB tethering. It’s not a fully “pro” router: advanced VPN server features, very deep traffic shaping, or highly granular control may be limited.

  • Performance in heavily congested WiFi environments may still face interference (as with many routers).

  • The 5 GHz band coverage is more directional and has less wall penetration than 2.4 GHz, so in large houses multiple APs or mesh might still be needed.

Ideal Use Cases:

  • Homes with gigabit or high-speed fiber internet service.

  • Environments needing strong WiFi for streaming, gaming, video conferencing across multiple devices.

  • Users who want a balance between cost and features (not going for enterprise gear, but wanting more than a basic router).

  • Situations where you need good control (guest networks, QoS, scheduling) but don’t need ultra-deep customization.
